We wanted to tell you girls about a great new service, launched at the beginning of this year. Further Afield is a unique collection of hand-picked places to stay for discerning gay and lesbian travelers. 

It’s the brain-child of Simon Forrester and Andrew Craven who told us their aim has been to create the kind of guide that they were personally looking for: handpicked for quality, style and character, easy to use, honest and reliable. The sort of guide they would recommend to their friends – gay and straight. Sound good? We thought so too. 

We all know how it feels to rock up to a hotel reception with your girlfriend and not know what the reaction will be. Further afield offers the reassurance of quality, style and most importantly, a warm welcome.  

Finding the right place to stay with personality and a warm welcome can be hard.  The Internet provides a wealth of choice but there is often little attempt to distinguish real quality, style and character from the rest and all too often the term ‘gay friendly’ is overused and meaningless. Further Afield does the research for you and takes the guess-work out of your booking. 

So what can you expect? The focus is on independent boutique hotels, guest-houses, and self-catering places to stay in the UK and beyond with their own personality and character. Many are gay owned but all are enthusiastically welcoming to gay and straight visitors. They range from romantic hill top bolt-holes in the Lake District, funky boutique hotel luxury in Devon, elegant town houses in Edinburgh to classic country house style in the Yorkshire Dales.
